Our Recruitment Philosophy

Congratulations on your admission into the Texas A&M University and your decision to go through recruitment. The Eta Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Chi focuses on recruiting the most outstanding leaders, scholars, athletes, and well-rounded men to continue its long tradition of excellence in Aggieland. Prior to Sigma Chi’s founding in 1855, fraternities were based on the proposition that friendships are best formed by men of the same minds, talents, and personalities. Our founders, however, believed that true brotherhood could prosper only when men of different temperaments, talents, and convictions banded themselves together under a common set of ideals. It was on this foundation that Sigma Chi began, and the Eta Upsilon Chapter has followed this ideal since its founding at Texas A&M in 1976.

In ordered to be considered for membership in Sigma Chi, one must be:

  • A Man of Good Character
  • A Student of Fair Ability
  • With Ambitious Purposes
  • A Congenial Disposition
  • Possessed of Good Morals
  • Having a High Sense of Honor and
  • A Deep Sense of Personal Responsibility

Once a prospective new member has been deemed worthy of this standard, Sigma Chi offers him countless ways to improve himself personally, academically, and socially.

For men who meet these standards, Eta Upsilon quickly offers them the opportunity to become involved in numerous student organizations that shape and lead campus life. The chapter also understands the importance of building a solid academic record for use in starting a career after graduation.  Eta Upsilon also values the opportunity to enjoy weekly social events that are an integral aspect of the thriving fraternity and sorority scene at Texas A&M. The chapter hosts “Derby Days” each year. Derby Days is a week-long competition among A&M sororities and organizations with the goal of raising money for Sigma Chi’s official philanthropic partner, the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Sincerely,

The Brothers of Sigma Chi
